Milan runs it on donations, but I'm doing it with memberships and tree planting instead. I believe that to be sustainable, fair, climate friendly and with a lower risk of the thing crashing economically if tens of thousands of free users sign up.

We already have an active chat room for Mastodon.green volunteers. We're like 5-10 people there.

Maybe we can create a new room for the Matrix.green project? It's probably good for people to play around to see what Matrix/Element is.

If we can get the Matrix.green project going you could then create a user such as @gevoel:matrix.green on our server. It would probably be included in the 3 € membership tier.

How? - I need to find some volunteers to install it. Once we have it installed we can let people try it.

If you want to try it immediately for free you can probably do so on Milan's homeserver on Tchncs.de https://chat.tchncs.de/#/register

It's best to install the Element app on your computer or phone after you have an account on chat.tchncs.de.

If you do that you can connect with me and test chatting, I'm on @JohanEmpa:matrix.org. That's another server.

Who? - The Mastodon.green community can have our own chat server in the same way as we have Mastodon.green. Hosted by me in Europe.

Depending on the settings, I'm no expert on this yet, anyone on our server may be able to create their own encrypted chat room for their friends.

I'm not sure exactly how we should set this up. I created my own rooms on free servers so it's technically possible for anyone to do that.
