@rweston Yes - the big differences are that you need to follow because there's no basic algorithm to create a home page.
The other thing is that the search works via hashtags. You'll notice things like #mastodonBasics in people's posts - this is how people will find them. Hashtag your posts extensively.
You can also search for something, then follow those search results. The your Home page will then also show the search of that hashtag.

As already discussed elsewhere, "CW" (Content Wrapper) is encouraged. BUT ...

It only covers TEXT. If your attached image is sensitive (or added later), you may want to *separately* mark it as "sensitive content"

One feature to note: "favorites" do not create a count, nor are they shared on your own timeline - in that way they are more like "bookmarks"
"Boosts", on the other hand, *do* show up and help distribution for toots.
