It gets to be about this time of day here on deck, a nice, quiet evening with what looks to be a pretty sunset. Excellent reading weather. I can still hear Jagger working over his peanut butter and bone, getting through the layer of peanut butter to the tasty treats inside. I never thought I could miss a pet like this after losing one of my kids but damn, this is pretty friggen close to it.

It’s kinda tough at the house at the moment, memories of Jagger all over the place; tufts of dog hair that seem to pop up out of nowhere. Coming up the stairs from the basement but no longer seeing him there, waiting for me. There’s the leash he’d be so excited to see me hold up and you could almost hear him saying “OH BOY! OH BOY! WE’RE GONNA GO FOR A WALK DOWN THE ROAD! LET’S GO!” that now hangs unused along with his collar. In the winter, it’ll be snow. Jagger loved the snow.

My thanks to everyone. Jagger was, indeed, mah bud. I actually got him to sit still long enough a couple years ago so I could get this shot of him, sitting with the leaves during the fall. It’s one of my favorites of him, all happy af and everything. He was such a good boy.

I regret to inform those who know Jagger he is no longer with us. The decision was made today to put him to sleep because of a cancer diagnosis that gave him, at the most, maybe a couple weeks. It wasn’t an easy decision at all and my heart is breaking. Needless to say, the date 23 July, the last time in 2006 I heard my oldest son say “I love you dad” about a week before he was KIA in Iraq, now means that much more to me.
