The language of the bill that moved out of committeee is unnecessarily weak, and could be *significantly improved with some relatively minor amendments: replacing an "and" with an "or", classifying philosophical beliefs as sensitive data, and some very basic protections for children's data and genetic data.

The Massachusetts House committee on internet and cybersecurity has finally put forward their own (strong) version of the Massachusetts Data Privacy Act: https://epic.org/massachusetts-house-committee-releases-strong-privacy-bill/

The bill now moves on to the House Ways and Means Committee. The House now has an opportunity to push for something much stronger than the disappointing bill that passed the Senate Ways and Means committee.

Former #TrumpEra #DOJ appointee in PA ran afoul of #DC HQ by commenting on an ongoing #ElectionFraud investigation before any charges were filed, and by failing to consult with the department’s #PublicIntegrity Section or #FBI before issuing public comments. The matter concerned 7 #Trump mail in ballots that were found discarded in #LuzerneCounty #Penn. The statements issued included press release from the #MDPA that was created with the encouragement and approval of then acting U.S. Attorney General #BillBarr, who was also a subject of the report.
