John Taine’s The Purple Sapphire, an excellent 1924 lost world adventure tale. There's a kidnapped girl, an extraordinary sapphire and a genuinely interesting lost civilisation which is no utopia, there are complex heroes and plenty of danger.

Today I was reminded of a documentary I saw a few years ago.

I've always had a fascination with the Easter Island heads. I want one in my garden (scaled down of course)

For those who may not know, the heads are not just heads... But entire carved bodies with intricate markings on them.

I'd love to know the true meaning of these giant stone carvings. But like many civilisations that have come before. This is another one lost to time.
