AGI - Un italiano di 53 anni detenuto nella Repubblica Dominicana è stato trovato morto in cella. Lo hanno reso noto i servizi penitenziari del Paese caraibico.
Loris Di Castri, questo il suo nome, da fine marzo era rinchiuso nel carcere di Najayo-Hombres, nella provincia meridionale di San Cristobal, in attesa di estradizione in Italia dove è ricercato per associazione a delinquere e traffico di stupefacenti. L'uomo era stato arrestato in collaborazione con l'Interpol perché destinatario dal 2019 di una 'notifica rossa' dell'Interpol, il massimo livello di allerta internazionale.
L'inchiesta e le cure mediche
È stato un compagno di cella a trovare il 53enne morto nel suo letto. Sul decesso è stata aperta un'inchiesta e il corpo è stato trasferito all'Istituto Nazionale di Scienze Forensi per un'autopsia volta a determinare le cause della morte. In una nota la Direzione dei servizi penitenziari ha riferito che dopo il suo arresto, a fine marzo, il detenuto era stato trasferito d'urgenza in un ospedale per ricevere cure mediche.

An Italian man, 53 years old, held in custody in the Dominican Republic, was found dead in his cell. This was announced by the country’s prison services.
Loris Di Castri, that was his name, had been incarcerated in the Najayo-Hombres prison, in the southern province of San Cristobal, since the end of March, awaiting extradition to Italy where he is sought for association with criminal activity and drug trafficking. The man was arrested in collaboration with Interpol because he had been the recipient of a ‘red notice’ from Interpol since 2019, the highest level of international alert.
The Investigation and Medical Examinations
It was a fellow cellmate who found the 53-year-old dead in his bed. An investigation into the death was opened, and the body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. In a statement, the Directorate of Penitentiary Services reported that after his arrest, at the end of March, the detainee was urgently transferred to a hospital to receive medical care.
