Saw an escape attempt from a "locked ward" type aged care facility today.

It appeared that a resident, perhaps early 70s, was leaving the facility with their younger family members to go on an excursion.

Immediately they were out the final gate, the resident took off running.

But their younger and stronger relative, in his 50s perhaps, gave chase and wrapped the escapee in his arms only 50 metres from the gate.

What are you doing with your freedom?

Chemical straight-jacket/antipsychotics seem to have reduced memory/recall to extent that the relative is now very sloppy, with very reduced memory.

A ward staffed by large muscular jocks/wrestlers where medication is reduced to minimal level that provides safety for such staff seems it would work better for relative.

Went to a very high-end multi-storey aged care facility in Perth.
You have to wait till the front desk gets staffed before you can get in the front door.

Residents in wheelchairs attempting to enter the lifts have the lift doors shut before they can enter.

Visitors attempting to use the lifts to descend will not until they ask staff "Where are the stairs as the lifts aren't working?", then the staff will enter the code to get the lifts working.

Had a day of many tele-support cals to an elderly relative who currently can't function independently.
This might change.

Barring sudden death we'll be back here. And likely sooner than later.

Our #NuclearFamilies are not set up to provide the peopled environment that she likely needs.

Which means an #AgedCareBusiness - though not a #LockedWard.

The #CircleOfLife goes around.
Inviduality-community tensions.
Nuclear families - great for the economy, not so much for kids and the infirm.
