Recently, I severed my connection with #LittleKickers.

While my time coaching in #GreaterSudbury, was amazing, the group in #Ottawa was problematic (at best). I won't get into many details, but I cannot stand behind the local program & its ownership.

Ever since leaving, I feel pretty lost. Much of my identity is tied to being a coach (and later, coach manager), and now I'm back at zero.

I still love #soccer, but coaching is soured to me now (and I need a paid job).

What to do?

Only a couple weeks before #moving. It's been a super quick pack up, but it's coming along. We get our keys on Friday, but we won't be heading down until after Easter.

I'm definitely going to miss the kids that I coach at #LittleKickers here in Sudbury. With any luck, I'll be able to take it up again in Ottawa.

I forgot to note today's #soccer coach training.

I completed the entirety of Stage 5 of the #LittleKickers  Level 1 Coach training program, which focused on Match Play & the Mega Kickers age group.

I also got about halfway through #RespectInSport's Keeping Girls in Sport course. I should be able to finish that up tomorrow.

I also received word from  about the on-field components for #CanadaSoccer's Active Start/FUNdamentals/Learn-to-Train programs. Nothing local until May 2024.

Wrapped up today's e-learning.

Today, I took my #soccer coach training another step and completed the FUNdamentals Online Theory course from #CanadaSoccer.

FUNdamentals focuses on children in U7 - U9 soccer. I completed the Active Start (U4 - U6) Online Module in mid-October.

While #LittleKickers  doesn't require training with Canada Soccer, I think it'll help me improve my skills and help my players transition to .

I've yet to do the on-field practical. Waiting for reply.

Had an interview/info session last night.

Starting in December, I'll be the operations manager for #LittleKickers #GreaterSudbury. I started as a #coach in September and will be fully transitioning to my new role as we get more coaches trained up.

While the pay is just above a livable wage in my area, I look forward to gaining more knowledge and experience in the area while growing Little Kickers and the #soccer community in the region.

I just wanted to post a follow-up on this.

After contacting #Autism Ontario, they shared a FREE online course on autism & physical activity.

I'm working through it now, and I very much hope it can help me better support the Autistic & Neurodivergent #soccer players in my #LittleKickers program.

The course is available here: https://www.autismontario.com/civicrm/mailing/url?u=22417&qid=4196689

Strong Minds through Active Bodies | Autism Ontario

Strong Minds Through Active Bodies is a free online course for physical activity students, professionals, and people supporting autistic youth and adults to access physical activity programs and spaces. Participants who access this free course will learn about autism, neurodiversity, ableism, and autistic mental health.

I'm hoping to round out my grassroots coaching education early in 2024 (including NCCP's Making Ethical Decisions and Ontario Soccer's Active Start field training, FUNdamentals & Learn-to-Train).

That will put me in good shape as #LittleKickers continues to grow, especially if we add that 8-12 group.

A Coach C License & Children's Diploma are on a bit of a longer-term development plan, but I'm confident I can continue to move in that direction.

I've been extremely busy lately helping to build up #LittleKickers #soccer in #GreaterSudbury

In addition to running classes at a Daycare on Friday (Walden), we have Saturday (Val Caron, New Sudbury, South End), Sunday (Chelmsford, Minnow Lake), and Monday (Minnow Lake) morning classes now.

Evening classes during the week are being floated for the New Year for the two older age groups (3.5-5 yrs & 5-8 yrs). And there's talk of experimenting with an 8-12 group.

(Continued)

Just had 4 mini-sessions with kindergarten classes at a French school here in #GreaterSudbury.

My #LittleKickers co-coach provided the language, and I provided some very animated expressions while we ran some great games.

It was a lot of fun and I can't wait to do it again!

Just finished #CanadaSoccer's "Making Headway in #Soccer" course on #NCCP's training site.

It's a very good training module on concussions. I've gone ahead and passed on the link to the other #LittleKickers coaches in Sudbury/North Bay. Hopefully, more coaches will do the training so we can keep the kids safe on the field and in the gym.

There were some great resources attached as well, including a quick reference guide that I highly recommend for anyone coaching: https://lms.coach.ca/cac/makingheadwayinsoccer-en/dist/docs/parachute-guide-coaches-en.pdf
