Craft Post (3/3): No Mixers For Cocktails by Lindsey Royce
Love: she staggeredly says "remorse is dry badlands bare" to further say later in the poem "Remorse is barren /as badlands winds,"
Followed by "crashes bloated amid ruins" to then staggeredly say " Who will raise a glass for a toast/ To the Wall Street Bull / who slurped the last drops / and squats bloated amid the ruins of our thirst"
a sucker punch right to the bloated gut, to those fueling ignorance. ~Fin
Craft Post (2/3): No Mixers For Cocktails by Lindsey Royce
I feel no resistance mid poem, I actually start to read faster. Yes, go off queen.
I start to feel angrier as I read, and even guilt. But better than ignorance.
She goes into the reasons of waste used for posh entertainment- hinting at the ignorance for life's finest luxuries
"until there's no water left"- what a verse.
"scarcity not only
for the poor we won't see"- so true.
Craft Post (1/3): No Mixers For Cocktails by Lindsey Royce
The scene sets in the first verse, I can visualize. She starts to list remnants of man made objects. I like how she crafts the lines for dramatic effect but also sectioning of thought. I can feel my mind shifting and observing.
Her repetition of "we ignored it" in one verse sinks in deep. We did. We do. and then she leads into more of what we ignored. Powerful transition to continue thought.
"An Offering To What's Next" (pg 18)- Lindsey Royce, from her book Play Me A Revolution
Gorgeous poem. The first stanza and beyond is dreamy and magical, and reminds me of remembering your own inner magic, floating through space and time shedding and expanding.
