Tux is a cute and content penguin mascot of Linux. The Finnish father of Linux Linus Torvalds was visiting an Australian zoo - and a tiny penguin bit his finger in a nibbly way. This amusing incident inspired the penguin logo for Linux. Larry Ewing created Tux with some instructions from Linus Torvalds.

Tux is a free as in freedom open source image. Ewing grants everyone permission to use and modify the Tux image as they see fit, but he requests that he and GIMP be given credit "if someone asks." https://isc.tamu.edu/~lewing/linux/
