Although several #EAC countries have already diverted to #Tanzania over #Kenya for their exports, Juba is not in any position to do the same in #Djibouti's favour, as far as the capital and south of the country are concerned. Lamu, Kenya, could still overtake Mombasa if #LAPSSET is finally relaunched.
#LaPSSET, the multimodal infrastructure project linking Addis Ababa to Lamu, #Kenya, has been revived. Although it cannot realistically compete with #Djibouti, it may offer a valuable trade route to the south of the country. A technical committee has gathered a month ago.

Kenya recently offered to rework tariffs at #Lamu port, on the Northern coast, after a meeting of #LaPSSET technical committee. LaPSSET, a project conceived in 1975 and relaunched in 2008, is supposed to link Lamu Port to #SouthSudan and #Ethiopia. The railway line to #Juba and #AddisAbaba alone has a price tag of 13.8 billion. Construction is hoped to begin in 2025.
