Lucy Letby: Calls grow for full public inquiry into hospital’s handling of serial killer nurse

Fears non-statutory inquiry announced by government will not get justice for families

The Independent
Late night wondering… it costs a #nurse or #midwife an average of 40k to graduate. But places are still in high demand. Why? Because there’s just not enough training place’s available. #betterbirths #Ockenden #MBRACE and #kirkup all say the same thing - and pledges of less than half than what’s actually needed puts mothers and babies at risk. I want to finish my studies to support people becoming parents -but I’m afraid that by the time I graduate there won’t be an NHS to work for.
Places on nursing and midwifery courses are competitive. Yet up to a third of them do not qualify or enter the work force because of conditions. For every 30 new midwives who enter the workforce 29 more either leave retire or don’t enter at all. I’m studying midwifery. I love it with a passion I cannot describe. Last year 67% of RCM midwifes said that they would leave in the next year. What is it going to take? Death? Read #kirkup #MBRACE & #ockenden reports-it’s already happened.
