*Puts weather hat back on*
A potent storm system is forecast to move through the Southeast U.S. early in the new work week. From that system, the #Tallahassee area will see at least a level 2 (out of 5) risk of severe weather on Tuesday. The main threats are damaging wind gusts and tornadoes.
As of this writing on Jan. 7, 2024, there are some limitations to the threat such as low instability. Instability helps develop and maintain thunderstorms. On the flip side, mid-level lift may help override the inadequate instability while wind shear will help produce supercell thunderstorms.
With the event over 36 hours out, I’m not comfortable giving exact timing of the squall line’s arrival into the Big Bend of Florida just yet. So far, it looks like sometime between the early morning hours of Tuesday through early afternoon.
Stay weather aware on Tuesday - especially since it will be day two of classes at #FSU, #FAMU, and Leon County Schools. Have a way to receive watches or warnings whether it’s a NOAA Weather Radio or a reputable mobile app.
