A ★★★½ review of The Glenn Miller Story (1954)
This was just okay for me. It's a fairly safe biopic of legendary bandleader Glenn Miller. James Stewart plays Miller, who rises from always broke trombonist struggling to get gigs to become one of the biggest stars of his time. June Allyson becomes his wife in a rather unconventional courtship. I was a little familiar with Miller's story so the end was no surprise (it was definitely not a surprise to audiences at the time). With Harry Morgan and a slew of big name musicians including Louis Armstrong and Gene Krupa in the film's best moment. Of the Anthony Mann-James
songs in the key of JonathanI’ve been binge-watching Curb Your Enthusiasm lately just to get the most out of the departing HBO Max. One of my favorite running gags in this is Larry David’s fictional persona quoting and watching Classic Hollywood movies. On another occasion, he even said June Allyson is [supposedly] his favorite Jo March in Little Women. 😭😭😄 ❤️
