Successful #SampleParty of #IODP Expedition 403 'Eastern Fram Strait Paleo-Archive': During the last two weeks, we had up to 38 scientists visiting the #BCR. All ∼22,500 sediment & rock samples have been taken and are ready to be shipped. Good job everyone!

‘A huge loss’: is it the end for the ship that helped us understand life on Earth?
The Joides Resolution has contributed to our understanding of climate crisis, the origin of life, earthquakes and eruptions. But funding cuts mean it may have sailed its last expedition

At long last, ocean drillers exhume a bounty of rocks from Earth’s mantle
Rocks fulfill 60-year-old quest and could yield science bonanza

Big (and exclusive) news: Ocean drillers working above the Mid-Atlantic Ridge have recovered an unprecedented sample of mantle rocks, in cores now stretching more than a kilometer long.
Getting rocks like this has been a goal for decades, and should help big fundamental questions about planetary formation, volcanic eruptions, plate tectonics, and more.
