Expectation vs Reality in Japan.
I went to see some Rakugo yesterday and although I didn’t always understand every word it was absolutely worth it. Such a great art form!

Spring in Japan means cheery blossoms, but at the moment it’s not quite there yet.

Today I fulfilled one of my undebatable to do’s while being in Japan and went to a theater with live Rakugo performances.
And wow, this art form is just so impressive, one performer invoking a whole story. I think my favorite was one mimicking a guy drinking, chewing on Dango and getting drunk. You could virtually see the food entering his mouth (but he only had a folding fan to invoke chopsticks, no other props).
I recognized 3 of the 7 stories from anime that center around Rakugo, which was nice too. Most of them from Akane-Banashi which I love, but the way.
Sometimes buying stuff in Japan is like this…
Just tourists who have no idea what they’re doing 😅

Walked through several anime stores in Ikebukuro (Akihabara is on the list for one of the next days) today but made few purchases.
I am not big enough a fan of most series and characters to buy keychains or standees of that I don’t really know where to put 😒
And the Hirogaru Sky figures that I still want were on display but not anymore for sale at Bandai store, so my hopes are on Akiba for those, too.
The difference when sightseeing with and without getting explanations!

That’s our hotel breakfast. You get plastic cups and trays to put the buffet stuff on 😩
But they ask you to only take what you can eat because of sustainability 🤡
I have bought reusable chopsticks so we don’t use up one set of wooden chopsticks per meal soon after we arrived in Japan.
I took the breakfast trays up to the room to use again tomorrow.
It’s really hard to reduce waste in a place where nobody sees the issue with stores full of single food items wrapped in plastics 😮💨
(And yes I wasted massive CO2 to even fly here but at least let me not feel bad about being here)
Encounters with dogs are always a highlight when traveling without your own.
A sight that says “I am in Japan” 😁
