Fun things about studying up on #JeanRhys is that there have been theses for Masters and PhDs written and published on the web.

Some of them are dreadfully written.
And, here's the lovely bit, after giving up on one after 5 pages, I find I have learnt a lot about where Rhys fitted in to "Literature" in the 1920s and 30s and where she fits in now.
All while I complained about the writing style of the student. 🙃

Whereas "good" writing would have been boring & opaque. 🤫
