bs2There's a character for a tall river plant in #Takuboku's poem about Tanaka Shouzu and the Yanaka village destroyed for a copper mine and industrial development. Researching that character("Ashi" or "Yoshi") got me to an older poem by #IssaKobayashi. The old poets I've read of all seemed to have tragic lives so I wonder if the plant is sad connotations, like the child was called to heaven or something. I'll to ask some poetry people..

Do not strike the fly, she also washes her hands, she washes her legs.
> 1820年、一茶58歳の作。季語は「蠅」で夏の句。「おい、殺すな。蠅が手を摺(す)り、足を摺り合わせて命乞いしているじゃないか」という意味のユーモラスな句である。蠅のような小さな生き物にも命があり、むやみに殺すべきではないと言っているが、命が惜しいと祈るかのような蠅の姿は老境に差し掛かった一茶自身の心情を託しているとも読み取れる。
