For today’s #StandingStoneSunday here’s yours truly at the Callanish Stones on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland from last October. An amazing stone circle that was set up between 2900 and 2600BC. One version of folklore has it they are petrified giants who refused to convert to Christianity. #neolithic #isleoflewis #scotland #outerhebrides

This is (definitely) a long shot... one of my ongoing side projects is researching¹ a mysterious aerial explosion in October 1996 off the coast of the Isle of Lewis. It resulted in a two day air-sea search, but no aircraft was reported missing. Ultimately it was blamed on a one-ton meteor by, of all places, a US defence company.

So is anyone on the fediverse a witness or knows of one?

¹Documents from the National Archives, British Newspaper Archives, *that* kind of research.

Yesterday we gathered sheep in from our common grazings. This land is grazed communally, a unique feature of crofting in Scotland, and at various times of year we work together to gather in our animals. The land is heather covered in parts, seen in the foreground here. You can see in the distance the distinct lines of the historic feannagan, a traditional method of creating raised planting beds, which would have been planted with potatoes and corn.

A slow start to 2026 in the Isle of Lewis. Times for contemplation, reflection, and catching breath. We are fortunate to have services like a grocery van, a library van, and this Mobile Bank come round the rural villages, keeping everything ticking over

Resident on #IsleOfLewis astounded by how low #aircraft was flying over town & went home (around two miles from town) to find that his wife had also heard it

She said all the cupboards & everything was vibrating in the house; they flew right over our house

2026 see's a trial move away from my regular platform, Instagram.

It's a scary and daunting prospect, after building up a solid following over years.

But, we can talk about a change and never be the one to make it, so let's see what lies ahead in the journey...

I'm a crofter living in the Isle of Lewis, an island off the west coast of Scotland. Crofting is a form of small-scale agriculture unique to the Highlands & Islands of Scotland.

You'll see a lot of sheep here and some pretty exceptional landscape scenery (in my humble opinion 🥲), if that's your kinda thing.
