A particular side comment that isn't going to be even top 30 of what's worthy of comments, but really stayed with me: the White Russian pilot was willing to defect for a few million USD.
The amount of money needed to buy a person to topple all of the corps is 0.004% of the wealth of currently 10th richest person in the world.
In Ironclads' world we assume the wealth inequality is worse than now, but it might not be. It could just be even less accountability toward the ultra-rich.
For a brief while I was seriously thinking that Viina was the bioengineered Jerome. However even then I figured that it's not meant as that kind of story, and I was right.
Even though the plot twist is exactly what you would expect of this particular kind of book, and chances are if you are like me you don't even know if this book has a plot twist at all, it's not a bad thing. In fact, I'm reminded how good it is to read a thriller without true unpredictability. It's exactly what you want and what you know.
Finished Ironclads. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially as a FFVII fan. It's more about Shinra's paramilitary than Sephiroth, more about the dog-cat ally than Sephiroth, more about bio-engineered people as a community than Sephiroth, and maybe equally amount of eco-dystopia.
Don't take this toot too seriously though, they are quite different. Just both give me life.
I'm only 20% in, I can't figure out if Ted Regan is based in government military, or corporate military. Or if in this world there are any real differences.
What I can understand so far are: Britain was absorbed by USA, most of the world already drowned because of global warming and USAUK is at war with everyone including Canada, Uruguay, and now Nordics. Corporate seems to have more war power than nations. Metal gear.
Also. I can't figure out if Ted is doing a five persons shadow job, or... Whatever it is that resulted in three Scions and a battalion involved for a covert mission.
Reading Terrible Worlds: Revolutions. Staring with Ironclads, it is very very good though I'm not entirely clear regard to aspects of this verse.
Also not sure if the writer likes to be known as Adrian Czajkowski or Adrian Tchaikovsky. Seems that in English it's defaulted as Tchaikovsky, but I also heard that he wanted to be known by the Polish spelling and his publisher didn't respect that?
