The glass mosaic beads are possibly ancient. The Io Necklace was exhibited by Alessandro Castellani at the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, USA, in 1876. It appears on an itemised list of jewellery which survives in the National Archives and Records Administration in Philadelphia.
