Wild tacking toward the center tonight. Harris reverses herself of fracking and proposes a token Republican cabinet member; #InmatePO1135809 proposes government-funded IVF and claims he won’t vote for Florida’s six-week abortion ban.
Meanwhile, his campaign director xeets about the “hacks in @SecArmy,” his running mate got booed by fire fighters, and he again claimed that “thousands” of supporters were turned away from his rally at a small Michigan steel plant. Press photos showed a hundred.
It also specifically doesn’t affect personal acts by the POTUS. (There’s this penumbra of official acts not codified by Article 2 that is squishy but leave that aside).
What Smith’s superseding indictment did was take all the crimes that #InmatePO1135809 committed around J6, remove all interactions with government officials and statutory powers, and specify only the actions he took as a candidate for public office.
There’s less evidence that way, but not weaker evidence. It’s the same crime.
I see a fair number of people I respect completely missing the point of the SCOTUS presidential official acts immunity ruling, and how it affects both the trials of #InmatePO1135809 and what Biden or Harris can do.
The ruling doesn’t affect whether official acts are legal or permissible. If a President directs a blatantly illegal action, the courts can still estop its implementation, and anybody acting in violation of their orders can be arrested.
It only prevents prosecution of the POTUS.
@hotdogsladies the funniest thing is that these heds all distort the parties to the squabble.
#InmatePO1135809 wants the mics unmuted so he can interrupt Harris. His campaign wants them muted so that he can’t do that because they know how bad the outcome will be. And the Harris campaign is all “Bring it on! No mute switch, baby! No filters! Lay it all out there! FAFO!”
So the squabble is entirely within one campaign.
