I just found out that Liu Xueyi was supposed to have a cameo in A League of Nobleman—as Prince Huai, the Emperor's gay uncle!!! It was cut for the obvious reasons. :(

What a disappointment. @liztai our cdrama interests would have overlapped perfectly for once!

#ImperialUncle update: I’m halfway through and just consistently delighted by this book. Da Feng Gua Guo is officially my new favourite author.

More detailed thoughts later, probably—I am highlighting various passages to return to, but don’t want to break off reading to share them!

Mentions of Zhang Ping are glancing but positive… is this what people feel when they refer to a character as their ‘son’? I’m so proud of him!

Finished #ImperialUncle main story after midnight last night. Honestly I found it refreshing that The Ship and how it develops is REALLY not that important to the story. Having someone to share his life was something Prince Huai wanted and he gets it but that’s not really the focus.

I remember it being compared to #FourteenthYearOfChenghua that way, except the romance is actually even LESS the point in Imperial Uncle. In Chenghua we KNOW it’s suitang and follow them throughout.

Hmm. Am now on chapter 6 of #ImperialUncle, when the coup is set to start. And idk, Prince Huai, it sure ships like you have a grudge against the Empress Dowager and the way she has excluded you from power. The sort of grudge that might lead to you being a very willing participant in a coup, despite your protestations of loyalty.
