Presenting: THE #CAMBRIANSMACKDOWN! A silly Tumblr style bracket. I will create a series of polls to determine which screwy looking Cambrian era critter is perceived as the coolest on Mastodon!
Polls will start at 7 days long.
Depending on how well-received this is, the polls may shorten in length.
Polls coming soon. Enjoy. This thread will be for bracket updates rather than the polls.

Delighted to see our study on the 3D morphology of the carapace-bearing #fossil euarthropod #Isoxys from the early #Cambrian #Chengjiang biota published! With Caixia Zhang, Javier Ortega-HernΓ‘ndez, Yu Liu and Dayou Zhai.

#MicroCT finds that Isoxys has jointed legs with hardened plates, but the body (usually hidden by the carapace) isn't hardened like modern #arthropods! Legs before body it seems. Also, the legs were specialized for either feeding or locomotion.
