As the sun rises over Mont Blanc, disappointment in the #PlasticsTreaty plenary hall: The negotiations have failed again. But after last-minute late-night drafts that were definitely not going to help solve #plasticpollution, no treaty is better than a weak treaty. Time to head home.

As part of the heatwave in Geneva, the atmosphere at the #PlasticsTreaty talks is heating up too. Five days into #INC52, no progress has been made. But the spoiler countries sound increasingly scared that the ambitious countries could call for a vote 🗳️ with Kuwait desperately referencing consensus.

Just a reminder #plasticpollution is not a new issue. Scientists found it in birds in the 1960s and described ocean plastics in the early 1970s, with reports in media like the NYTimes and Washington Post. The #plastics industry knew.
