...just a regular reminder that we all have something to hide. Encryption and good #privacy practices are good for us all.

As we've posted previously ( https://mastodon.social/@theprivacyfoundation/103165334208919945 ), we believe that owning up to the reality that we do have secrets to keep is important - and that should not make us "bad" or suspicious people.

Our passwords are secret.

Our home address, email, IP addresses are secrets we may choose to share with some.

Our web searches are secret.

Our political, spiritual and other communications and investigations are secrets.

Don't let "them" turn you into a villain.

...additional things that we should hide via #encryption, and question why a government or business needs access to:

- Religious views and discussions.
- Political affiliations.
- Sensitive conversations and photographs about sexuality & sexual identity.
- Doctor appointments.
- School information.
- Travel information.
- Brand preferences.
- Workplace discussions.
- Family & friend interactions.

I too have something to hide. I, as well, am not perfect.

I prefer to keep my medical, conversational and everything else history private unless I choose to share something. Why should I allow a business like Google or even a secure system with a government backdoor to use my information.

Unless you are not paying attention, American politicians, businesses and organizations use information to attack, not employ or brush off their rivals just like any other volatile nation would.

#encryption yes. #encryption always.

"Do you have something to hide?" is a manipulative rebuke to those that use #encryption.

It would help us all turn this conversation around. Because, the answer is: YES, we do have something to hide.

Things that we should hide, and must question why a government or business NEEDS access to:

- Medical history.
- Sensitive conversations with employers, children, spouses.
- Billing and banking information.
- Purchase information.
- Web search history.
And more...
