I went on a hunt tonight to find out more about the authors of the 1990's zine 'I Bleed For This?'
I won't dox the one author I was able to locate. I have a hunch the second author was just yet another pseudonym of the singular author.. but can't prove this guess.
Here is how I found my information, searched for more, and correlated some guesses.
First off, I download copies of the ezine. All 55 files, plus the initial 'ad'. This was actually easier to accomplish than I expected - https://textfiles.vistech.net/magazines/IBFT/ has them all.
Next, I looked for email addresses, mailing addresses, BBS info, websites and FTP sites.
Combined with the two fake names the author(s) used, and a bit of Googling, eventually I found the name of a fake company one of the authors used. I also found a phone number associated with one of the people -- I assume it is long long disconnected.
Then I found a connection between IBFT and another zine. Knowing this connection helped verify some of my previous guesses and leaps of logic, and also helped verify I found the right person.
Knowing what college hosted the IBFT mailing list, knowing the associated zine info, and enough Google-fu finally lead to a name. A real person's name. And looking the person up on LinkedIn leads to a matching college degree.
Finding the person on Twitter yields connections back to other things that verify the account and the name.
I did it. I found someone from the 90s.
