New Internet rule: If you were today years old when you learned about The Jones Act then you are not allowed to voice opinions about it.

No company has announced “thanks to AI, we have the same number of employees, but we have launched zillions of new services and are growing our product lines because of all the time our people get to spend innovating.”

I don’t know why that is.

Hate it when I'm being pessimistic but accidentally predict the future.

Anyway it's my opinion that genAI has already peaked and even the peak was shit. The drive to get more data has led to models consuming their own (or other model) output and over time the quality of the data ingested will decline.

So yeah, I think we already peaked and the peak was still shit. The tech can get better but not the data and this can only ever be as good as the data because AGI ain't going to happen with this method.

I don't really think AGI can happen with any method with the way we do computing, but that's an argument for 10 iterations of This Shit from now when the idea as an investment scam is dead and the real scientists can touch it again.

If you have highly confidential documents make sure to use a highly secure password. Like "EpsteinC20!".

Choose a password not related to the person the documents are about, not sent to 3 different people, and not sent over a communication method that can be sent unencrypted and is often stored unencrypted.

Friday security musing: If it is still in production* then it can't be called legacy software.

SaaS - meaning the product is still accessible by customers
or
On-prem - meaning the product being installed by new customers or used by >50% of your user base

It's all a blur

If you follow information security discussions on the internet, you might have heard that blurring an image is not a good way of redacting its contents.

Single pain of glass.

Wait.. that's a typo.

The ice arrives
The branches sway
The power flickers
Then goes away

On Georgia pines
Stay off the roads
Ignore the signs
That say "just five miles"
