Eliott Rodriguez's opponent, María Elvira Salazar, was also a longtime TV anchor (with CNN and Telemundo). On the Republican side, some notable former anchors include Rep. Ashley Hinson in perennial swing seat #IA02 and Rep. Mark Alford in #MO04 bsky.app/profile/davi...

Today former State Rep Shannon Lundgren suspended her campaign in Iowa's second U.S. House district.

I thought Lundgren would be a strong Congressional candidate for #IA02, but she was rumored to be struggling with fundraising.
Many influential Republicans had already endorsed or donated to former State Rep Joe Mitchell (who has no ties to NE Iowa).

New post: The bill that ended the government shutdown included $16 million in funding for Iowa projects.
I broke down the $$ secured for #IA01, #IA02, and #IA03.
(#IA04 will get nothing again, because Randy Feenstra doesn't submit earmark requests)

Forgot to post earlier: last week I interviewed Dave Bushaw, a former Bernie Sanders campaign staffer in #Iowa who is now running as an independent in #IA02 (an open seat where three Republicans and four Democrats are already running).

'Tis the season for U.S. House and Senate candidates to announce their 3Q fundraising totals.
My longstanding editorial policy is never to write campaign finance stories until the full FEC filing is available online. (The deadline is October 15)

Rod Blum is running for Congress in #IA02, so #FlashbackFriday to the Office of Congressional Ethics report on him from December 2018.
Supporting exhibits included references to me as "this crazy blog lady" and "this Bleeding Heartland bitch":

#IA02 Ashley Hinson (R): Won by 15.6% ~34,000 ACA exchange enrollees are at risk. ~46,000 Medicaid expansion* enrollees are at risk. *(aka IHAWP)
New statement from Kevin Techau is bad news for Dems hoping to make #IA02 competitive: "this campaign’s fundraising simply hasn’t met the threshold level that this race demands. As such, I am announcing effective today, that I am suspending my campaign for Congress."
No other Ds have declared yet.
