1/2 - Hey Fedi. Today I’ve finally "retired" my LinkedIn account. Or rather, I’ve decided that I'll be using LinkedIn purely as a job board.

This isn’t a financially savvy move by any means, but sometimes we need to prioritise beliefs over money.

Retiring my LinkedIn account after 7 years | Anthony Accioly posted on the topic | LinkedIn

**** Retiring Social Media Aspects of My LinkedIn Account **** The day has finally come. I'm "retiring" my LinkedIn account. I have real appreciation for what LinkedIn once was. And this is not "fake corporate persona" forced appreciation. I speak from the heart as Anthony Accioly, the real person. Without LinkedIn, international recruiters would not have found me back in 2015, I would not have relocated to Europe, and my life would not have taken the direction it did. For a long time I did my best to bring quality content to LinkedIn. I produced and shared original tech content, I wrote publicly about my immigration journey, and I curated a good selection of both applied and research software engineering topics. I have met wonderful and inspiring people here, folks who took time out of their busy schedules to post great content and even personally coach or mentor me in the past. I cannot thank you all enough. But just like Stack Overflow, which was also a huge part of my digital life, there is less and less here for me other than the job board. LinkedIn’s problems are fixable, but I do not believe the right incentives are in place to bring it back to a healthier state. I will leave it at that to keep this farewell post free of negativity. So after careful consideration, I have decided to retire all social media aspects of my personal account on LinkedIn. No more posting, resharing, liking, or commenting. I am also using a feed blocker, so other than DMs and connection requests, LinkedIn content will not be shown to me. To be clear: - I will still read and reply to DMs - I will continue looking after the LinkedIn pages and accounts of communities I am involved with, like the Aspiring Speakers group. - My CV will remain here (I'm still deciding if I'll be updating it or not) - I will not delete my old LinkedIn content. In fact, I have downloaded a copy of all my posts and I am looking at ways to publish it outside LinkedIn. For those who follow me for my content, you can find me on Mastodon (@[email protected]) and on Nostr (npub1a6we08n7zsv2na689whc9hykpq4q6sj3kaauk9c2dm8vj0adlajq7w0tyc). Maybe I will see some of you there? One way or another, I am retiring my LinkedIn account after decades of heavy usage and I sincerely appreciate all of the great people who have shared this journey with me. As George Harrison once said in a unmistakable British way: Well, I think I’ll be leaving the band now. (...) See you ’round the clubs. #LinkedIn #Farewell #AccountRetirement

Curmudgeon Approved!

In case you missed it, zamboni served up a great list of WTIIF (What The Internet Is For) links in chasles' Metatalk post looking for an Ask Metafilter question about "websites that are amazingly specific, usually maintained by a cranky crank."

Amazing list of curmudgeonly websites

There was an askme (I think) not too long ago, about websites that are amazingly specific, usually maintained by a cranky crank. It's where I found the sauce packet database for example... So...
