Cheyenne, the Houston Zoo’s oldest orangutan, dies at 52

Orangutans can live around 35-40 years in the wild, while the oldest orangutan to live in captivity died at age 62, according to the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation.

Houston’s BARC animal shelter to reduce adoption fees in December

The capacity of the BARC animal shelter is in critical condition. During the shelter's 2024 fiscal year, more than 20,000 animals were brought in, including 13,544 dogs and more than 6,000 cats.
