Houston Zoo to close Carruth Natural Encounters building, relocate animals

The building, first constructed in 1962, is scheduled to have its final day of operation on March 23. The attached outdoor meerkat exhibit will remain open.

Cheyenne, the Houston Zoo’s oldest orangutan, dies at 52

Orangutans can live around 35-40 years in the wild, while the oldest orangutan to live in captivity died at age 62, according to the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation.
