And then there’s #HomeToVote. I still think everyone posting about it was a terrible idea. If the result had been as close as the ‘96 divorce referendum, the No side definitely would have dragged those posts into court to challenge the result. But with a margin of almost half a million votes, they knew they couldn’t.
Did you fly #HomeToVote #RepealThe8th from the US on @AerLingus? I have two one-way upgrades expiring June 30 that I won't be able to use that I'd love to give to someone on their journey back to the US.

@lexiconista You can be responsible for this election's #hometovote ! #GE24
I think I persuaded someone to vote yesterday - like tens of thousands of young Irish people, the vote is still registered "at home" though the person lives a long journey from the parental home. This is a *big* reason why elections in Ireland should be held on the weekend - it would increase the vote hugely as people went home for mammying, friends-catch-up and the vote - #HomeToVote could be a whole new Irish practice @fiannafail @finegael @europeangreens @socialdemocrata314 @sinnfeinireland

@faduda @Tarbh Maybe.
But #HomeToVote was mentioned in the context of #MarRef only.
I got the impression from the article that there was enough word count to mention one referendum.

Edit: it might have been in the article as submitted, but edited out.

@dec23k @Tarbh #hometovote doesn't count?
Five years ago today people in Ireland (& some who travelled #HomeToVote) #repealed the #8th in Ireland.
There was lots of organising for people to get to their polling place (Ireland doesn't make it as easy as some other countries).
The following day I was in a sunny field full of buttercups desperately waiting on updates from the tally people via twitter.
By the time the marriage equality and abortion referendums came I had already lost my Irish vote, but am very proud of how the country voted
It's like #HomeToVote all over again, sob. The FOMO is strong today.

I know we called Twitter a hellsite and most of us deactivated multiple times but I'm just thinking about #repealthe8th and #hometovote and even the Super Mario red beret thread and how these things couldn't have kicked off on a different social media website.

Even if Mastodon takes off, we have lost something. Or rather, we have had something stolen from us.
