It's all about changing the narrative right? That's what needs to keep happening, and that's what #HomeToBilo started.

The most effective trick the LNP has been playing since Howard is just reframing the debate over and over.

- Instead of talking about people's lives being destroyed by inhumane detention policies, they kept talking about "are they safe to let into our community?" Never mind that crime rates amongst migrants are lower than non-migrants.

- Instead of admitting that most of those applying for refugee status are genuine refugees when we finally get around to assessing their claims, we start a news cycle around "Are there murderers are hiding on these boats?" The real number may be ZERO, but the debate has been reframed now to trying to prove none of the arrivals are murders.

- Instead of recognising that negative gearing and tax policies in Australia have created a housing bubble that feeds boomer wealth, we get idiotic campaigns on AM radio stations blaming immigrants of all stripes for causing a housing shortage and it seems they're also culpable for traffic jams on freeways?

It's pure evil. And it works to win elections.

Hell yes. That gets a mention at the end of the episode too.

Look at it another way though, if not for the Bilo campaign how many Australians would have the foggiest idea of what is really happening to the other thousands? Priya and Nades put a human face to the reality of our govt's refugee policies.

Indeed the main strategy behind Howard's years was to stop the media from showing any human faces. Literally to dehumanise exactly who were seeking refuge. They even changed the language to "asylum seekers" instead of refugees, to minimise sympathy and legitimacy.

So we need these detailed examinations like the #HomeToBilo family. It takes incredible courage for them to live under the spotlight, and most refugees would not feel safe to do so.

That the ALP will shop the remaining thousands, while enjoying the bouquets for this one family, is everything we need to know about Australian politics. Nobody in the ALP has the integrity to stand up to the media and show leadership. They are playing a cynical game of policy by numbers. The sooner the Murdoch empire crumbles the sooner we can hope for better from our elected sheep.

Watching an ABC episode of Australian Story about Priya and Nades, and the girls.

Some lovely and wonderful people from the town of Biloela. Smart people at that. They achieved so much, against all the odds. Just beautiful people.

Also remembering what an absolute dirt bag Peter Dutton proved himself to be. So much needless pain and harm to this family, for year and years.

I know there's precious little difference between the ALP and LNP sometimes, but on this occasion there is a world of difference. The bar for decency is pretty low in Australia.

#HomeToBilo campaigners today are thankful that the Federal Court's backed up a lower court decision, and that a Tamil family seeking asylum will not (for now) be deported back to Sri Lanka: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-16/qld-biloela-tami-family-federal-court-decision-3yo-tharunicaa/13156418

So depressing to me that we're even at this place where these minor things are the decisions celebrated. This family should be in Biloela, where they are a beloved part of the community. They should not be on Christmas Island, where the government is basically operating a prison camp solely for them (!!!). Neither should there be any question of Tamils being refouled to Sri Lanka. The children have never even been to Sri Lanka! This is all such racist, inhuman bullshit.
