1915 panoramic view of the town of #Mariampol (now #Marijampolė in modern-day #Lithuania) on a postcard for German consumption. (The caption refers to "the eastern theater of war.") My German-speaking great grandfather left there in 1900, followed by his wife and their first four children in 1906. (The father had returned a couple times, judging by their young ages.) Somewhere I have a picture of him and his brother as conscripts in the tsar's army from before their emigration.

Superior Viaduct, Cleveland, Ohio. I have no information to go with this postcard, but it attracted me because it would have been from the time when my great grandmother immigrated to the city with four kids, joining her husband and having another two soon after, the youngest of them my grandmother. The smoke, exhaust, and haze in this picture are quite something, by the way, as this was decades before the Clean Air Act.
