Something else that happened today — actually, 50 years ago today: Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's home run record. It wasn't easy.

Wonderful interview with Al Downing, who threw that pitch while playing for the #Dodgers: https://www.npr.org/2024/04/08/1243366146/50-years-later-hank-aarons-famous-hit-that-broke-babe-ruths-record

Of course, it was not an easy journey for Mr. Aaron: "Hank Aaron rose above racist hate mail and threats in pursuit of Ruth’s home run record" https://apnews.com/article/hank-aaron-715-home-run-anniversary-braves-5edfe2a0d0f3f9a19cc6e57f9762050d

On this day, January 22, in 2021: Hammerin' Hank Aaron left the field. He was 86.

Today's memorabilia: In 1982, Hank signed a baseball for me at his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2013, my dog, Scout, destroyed that ball.

Today's missed chance: He tried out for the Brooklyn Dodgers when he was 15 and didn't make the cut.

May his memory be a blessing.
