Der neue Netflix Release Hell Dogs ヘルドッグス 地獄の犬たち von Masato Harada ist für mich eine positive Entdeckung neuer Filme aus Japan - Ich habe eher Standard-Kost erwartet, aber Hell Dogs versteht es über 2h bei der Stange zu halten.

Eine echte Netflix Überraschung, twisty Crime Epos voller stoischer ehrenhafter Yakuza Männer, die sich gegenseitig ans Messer liefern, mittendrin ein Undercover-Cop auf Rachezug - soweit so Standard. Was Hell Dogs für mich ausmacht, ist ein Gespür für kleine emotionale Momente, wo ich sie nicht erwarte, eine klare Kameraführung, überraschende Spannungsmomente die sich in dreist brutale Action entladen. Eine Unterwelt-Reise in der vieles angedeutet wird, winzige Gesten und Regelbrüche den Tod bedeuten können. Dazu noch eine prise Situations-Komik. Allerdings lässt der Film auch einen unangenehmen Beigeschmack zurück, was die Frauencharaktere angeht, die selbst wenig Einfluss auf die Handlung haben. Dazu noch
