Great to see #HelenSharman on the BBC - thoroughly recommended her book about her launch to the space station funded by interfora & Gorbachevs Russian gov when the UK gov pulled out of funding her place won in a competition. Also as 1st British astronaut she was forgotten till fab Tim Peake was selected for the ISS & found he wasnt the first UK astro. Helen was asked to order an interflora delivery to her boyfreind from ISS space. But he ditched her in astro training so sent them to her mum!

Just watched The Last Soviet Citizen on BBC iPlayer (it was an Arena programme).

From 1992, it's about the last cosmonaut to go up to Mir, who returns to Earth after spending much longer than his planned mission in orbit.

Lovely to see the First British Astronaut, Helen Sharman being interviewed so much 👍

@AwesomeAstronomy great to see this - the brilliant #HelenSharman what a story - so interesting that Gorbachev backed the mission along with i#nterflora who were a bit upset when Sharman broke up with her boyfriend before going into space - if I was Interflora owner I would mention this in the media at least once a year that the company helped fund the first Brit in space! :-what’s not to like !!

Just thinking about the new films about space - its really not clear why no one has made a film about #HelenSharman and her incredible journey into #Space as the first British #Astronaut.
