Blue Flames is a collaboration album by organist Shirley Scott and saxophonist Stanley Turrentine recorded in 1964 and released on the Prestige label.

Scott Yanow awarded the album 4 stars stating "All of the many collaborations between organist Shirley Scott and tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine in the 1960s resulted in high-quality soul jazz, groovin' music that was boppish enough to interest jazz listeners and basic enough for a wider audience" - Wikipedia

The New Boss Guitar of George Benson is the debut studio album by American jazz/soul guitarist George Benson released in 1964 under Prestige Records

Review by Alex Henderson

George Benson was only 21 when, on May 1, 1964, he recorded his first album as a leader, The New Boss Guitar of George Benson. At that point, the guitarist had yet to become a huge name in jazz, although many of those who knew him for his work with Jack McDuff's group (which he joined in 1962) agreed that he showed great potential. Benson still had some growing to do in 1964, but even so, this is an impressive debut. The guitarist had developed a distinctive, recognizable sound on his instrument, and he plays with both feeling and technique...

Spring Fever by The Jazz Brothers feat. Chuck Mangione, Gap Mangione, Sal Nistico released on Riverside in 1961.

From The Liner Notes:

"The mode of expression for The Jazz Brothers is a modern, hard-swinging one, tempered by softer (but no less swinging) performances. The former vein is exemplified by Chuck Mangiones Brooks Brothers (a punning reference to an up-state New York disc jockey) and Spring Fever, and by Frank Pullaras Not Too Serious. The quietest moments are found on the celebrated standard ballad, What's New?, which contains a long, expressive Nestico solo, sandwiched by some sensitive muted work by Chuck..."

Soul Jazz by the Georges Arvanitas Quintet released on Columbia in 1960.

One of the most hard-hitting albums ever cut by pianist Georges Arvanitas – an early effort that's all soul jazz all the way through! Although Arvanitas is best known as a committed modernist, especially in later years, this sweet early 60s session is a stone cooker in the best mode of Blue Note dates of the time – tight, swinging, and perfectly poised with just the right space for some excellent solos from Francois Jeanneau on tenor, Bernard Vitet on trumpet, and Arvanitas himself on piano – all grooving in a style that would make the Jazz Messengers proud, but also one that's got some key touches of postwar Parisian jazz too. Bass is by Michel Gaudry and drums are by Daniel Humair – and titles include "Oblivion", "This Here", "Poco Loco", "Bouncin With Bud", "Bohemia After Dark", and "Mister X" - Dusty Groove

The Music from "The Connection" is an album by the Freddie Redd Quartet, recorded as the soundtrack for Jack Gelber's 1959 play The Connection on February 15, 1960 and released on Blue Note later that year. The quartet features saxophonist Jackie McLean and rhythm section Michael Mattos and Larry Ritchie.

Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Freddie Redd composed the music for Jack Gelber's The Connection, a gritty play about musician junkies. Gelber had originally thought that the play would feature real musicians -- who would also double as actors in minor roles -- improvising on blues and jazz standards in the tradition of Charlie Parker, but Redd convinced him to use an original score. The two weaved Redd's original compositions into the score, making it an integral part of the play, but the music holds up superbly on its own...

Bennie Green Blows His Horn is an album by American trombonist Bennie Green. It was recorded in 1955 and released on the Prestige label

The AllMusic review by Scott Yanow stated that "Green and his band show that there is no reason that swinging jazz has to be viewed as overly intellectual and esoteric... a fine example of Bennie Green's talents and winning musical personality." - Wikipedia
