I have a lot of artwork to hang, and I'm wondering if there's a digital tool that could help--like something where you take a pic of the wall and then upload pics of the artwork and play with the layout on the computer before hanging. Does such a tool exist? I've seen designers on TV making cutouts of the art sizes and taping them on the wall to determine layout, but that doesn't let you see the full visual.

This may be the most "man logic solution" thing I've ever done.

My partner asked me to hang some art in the bedroom. One framed image above each of our nightstands.

After hanging the second one, I realized it was an inch or so off center with the nightstand. So did I rehang it?

Nah, I just scooted the bed over an inch. She'll never know. 😂

Made another dent in our #HangingArt backlog! Flower holder from Irodori Yosegi, made by a master woodworker we met at a #handicraft festival at Kamigamo-jinja shrine in Kyoto... 😁

Yosegi-zaiku is traditional Japanese marquetry, originating in the Edo period - we love inlaid wood #art in any form, and it was really neat to find this lovely example there!

Today @mbroome & I hung a shelf for art together, and we were talking about how high to hang it, and I channeled a less-anal-retentive friend and said "oh, just eyeball it!", and Mike gave me The Hairy Eyeball but was willing to try it, and it worked out great!

(This piece has been languishing in a closet for months because neither one of us wanted to tackle figuring out how high to put the shelf... 😊)

It is neither centered-on-the-flat-art (way too high) nor centered-between-the-flat-art-and-the-couch (still too high), it's just where-Mike-thought-it-looked-good, and we're both really happy with it. A small household miracle! 🎉

Got another small butterfly painting from my favorite small-butterfly-painting artist at the Eno Festival this year... and I still haven't hung the one from Centerfest, so I pulled out a tape measure and started doing painting-hanging math.

I want to hang (eventually) four 5and7/8" square paintings in a wall space that is 29" wide by 8and1/8" high. That ends up being waaaaaaaay too many 8ths and 16ths of an inch to calculate, so...

One crappy diagram and entirely too much futzing with a square ruler & a level, and my current two are hung! (With bonus marks for where to hang the future two, even.)
