Just today while finding my way here using Google Maps, messaging on Whatsapp, reading mails on Outlook I was wondering why are these Tech Giants providing these services for free. After coming here I realized what was actually happening. Everything and everywhere I do, go, eat is being tracked, every bit of information private to me is being sold to companies who use it to sell personalized stuff to me back. Thanks to @rohitnair for that demo, it opened my eyes. Also thanks to @ranjithraj I found a lot of alternatives to apps I regularly use as well as LineageOS, a de-googlified android (https://lineageos.org/)

Thanks to #HacktoberFestBangalore I learned a lot of stuff today and found a few points to explore further.

I would like to share a project by my friend which I feel is very useful for students and is open-source. It is called Circuitverse(https://circuitverse.org/), it is a Digital Circuit Simulator and is based on JavaScript. Do give it a try.

Thanks for this event! Excited to be part of further events!

Had an extremely fun and and interactive session by @ranjithraj and his team. There was a session on difference b/w Privacy and Security, which was super good. The organisers had done an amazing job, sharing details about various FOSS alternatives to various default apps that we use in our daily life. https://fediverse.party/ and prism-break.org were two of the most amazing sites I got to know today. Both are kind-of listings of Open Source alternatives to the general websites that we use. Eye opener of the event was when everyone got shocked on seeing the number of breaches on Exodus Privacy and on monitor.firefox.com . This was hands-down one of the best meetups I had ever been. Kudos to the organisers for doing a great job.
