Twitter backtracks, lets emergency and traffic alert accounts keep free API access

After many public utilities like the National Weather Service and the MTA ditched Twitter due to its API paywall, now the company says “verified gov or publicly owned services” can stick around for free.

#HKWEATHER We will learn later this week, maybe as late as Sunday (by which the storms should arrive) whether automatic tweets from @ObservatoryHK like this one are indeed back to normal.

In the meantime, you should follow the restored Chinese-languge tweets from @HKObservatory.

(So, those relying only on @ObservatoryHK didn’t get direct notice of a shallow shake off HK this morning.)
