Peter Brannen also has a book out on the #greatdying

My question is, do these books highlight how close current fossil fuel burning brings us to the same level of carbon cycle disruption? https://doi.org/10.1126/sciadv.1700906#F4

🌋☠️🌍 252 million years ago, Siberian eruptions choked the sky with CO2, heating Earth by 18°F. The “Great Dying” erased most life and reshaped every ecosystem. New research warns our own carbon binge could trigger a sequel, only faster. #GreatDying https://gizmodo.com/an-early-mass-extinction-event-cooked-our-planet-and-erased-most-life-2000574846
An Early Mass Extinction Event Cooked Our Planet and Erased Most Life

A new study reveals that Earth's biomes changed dramatically in the wake of mass volcanic eruptions 252 million years ago.

@Sheril

Yes, I had been thinking about that.

"New research shows the "#GreatDying" was caused by global warming that left ocean animals unable to breathe...As temperatures rose and the metabolism of marine animals sped up, the warmer waters could not hold enough oxygen for them to survive. "*

/s: That, and that the only known species that was as stupid as human beings to destroy its habitat was the #BlueAlgae.

What does this say about human intelligence? /s

Mass #extinction event 260 million years ago resulted from #climatechange, studies say
#Ocean stagnation, #ecosystem collapses, and #volcano eruptions all played a role.
This Capitanian #massextinction was once lumped in with the “#GreatDying” of the end-Permian mass extinction, but the lesser-known extinction occurred 8–10 million years earlier. It may not have been great, but it was quite lethal, seeing as many as 62% of species go extinct!

The Great Dying: To depict the worst extinction of all time, I drew the Earth as a skull. #GreatDying

Late Devonian Extinction: This one was set off by the evolution of trees completely changing how the world's climate worked. By breaking up rock into soil they released nutrients into the environment, leading to anoxic waters. Trees reduced the CO2 in the atmosphere, making it get cold. To try and depict the trees indirectly killing life, I drew them literally killing it with their roots.
