Researchers found out that social media can be used to indicate the stock market or the unemployment rate by analyzing the quantity and content of the posts. Using social media platforms could have the advantage that there is no time lag in publishing the data, as is the case with government statistics.

Fun fact: another indicator to measure GDP of countries is the amount of light measured from satellites during the night.
