Goodnight Birdies!!
A couple of hens with chicks are in another little box just outside the main sleeping cage. They get garded by wire mesh (squares from the 100yen dollar store) and cement blocks. The big cage had a door with hinges but wood tends to rot out around the screw holes... Simpler setups seem to last longer, and aren't as complicated to install. Plus! Plus! I have to fix some softly rotten parts of the door before next weekend, when the nice Neighbors might be closing the cages up at night.
I was lucky to notice that one hen decide to spend the night in another cage b the house and that I had extra 100yen wire mesh around for another project (that probably won't happen anyway). I thought the hen was brooding eggs and I could just leave the cage closed for days, but remembered to check before headed out to work. This hen is one of the two caring for chicks, and they were anxious to get out. Lucky! It's easy to forget the cage that doesn't come into view during a quick walk to the main sleeping cage..
