So I know Iorek the panserbjørn plays a pretty predominant role in the book, but I need the newly introduced Lee Scoresby to be a predominant character too! He's done like...2 things, and already I'm just like, "Damn, this guy is cool."
Can one with a daemon have no privacy? Like, when you go to the bathroom, does your daemon just have to hang out there with you? And what about sex and other intimate moments? Are the peoples' daemon's just there watching? Do they feel and enjoy the sensations as well?
These are not questions I want answered, but ones that've been crossing my mind this entire experience.
Thought I lost my book, so I missed out on reading for a few days. Oops.
Anyways, big goose daemon; that's a nice thing to return to.
YO! The first bear in the story, and he's drinking booze and giving out side-quests. He'll yeah!!
I love learning so much about the gyptians. I'd honestly guessed they were just going to be a culture in the background, not something we'd pay much attention too, but here they are front and center in the plot.
I had my suspicions that Lyra's relationship to Asriel wasn't as she'd thought, but I wasn't thinking father. I was guessing family friend, or perhaps he'd kidnapped her to save her from her true parents, but this was all much simpler.
So, I just realized I never actually finished part 1 like I thought on my previous reads. I just got to chapter 7 and had the epiphany that "I've never been here."
All this time, I thought I'd at least finished 1/3 of the book, and I hadn't even made it that far.
And that is to say nothing of his characters or how he plots the story; his creativity and implementation of his themes, it's all just so mindbogglingly good!
Pullman is the kind of author I aspire to be. His worldbuilding is so dense and full of character and wonder without be a slog to read. There are so many small bits and pieces that just fit together marvelously.
