I was a goaltender in my youth and idolized the NHL stars at that position. But David Murray Dryden (September 5, 1941 – October 4, 2022) was a lessor known goalie overshadowed by his younger brother Ken. But David was credited with creating and using the first used the modern goaltending mask, consisting of fibreglass and a cage. He also carved out an impressive career from 1962 to 1980 with the NHL and WHA.
