Another longtime passion of mine -- vintage beer. In particular, Belgian lambic beer. Just like denim, it gets better with aging.
Over the next several posts, I'll introduce some of the vintage bottles of lambic beer I have lying in the cellar of my parents' house back home in Belgium. The newest bottles are 5 years old -- bottles I bought the last time I was home in Belgium 5 years ago -- and the oldest ones are almost 40 years old! The only reason I've been able to keep this little collection is that I live in Japan, and I only get to go home to Belgium every several years. If I'd lived in Belgium, I would have finished drinking all of them a long time ago!
Starting with two 35 cl bottles of Oude Geuze Mariage Parfait and a 75 cl bottle of Oude Geuze brewed during the 2002-2003 brewing season by Boon.
Lambic beer is a spontaneous fermentation beer, and "geuze" refers to a blend of old and young lambic beers. The Mariage Parfait, or "Perfect Marriage," is a perfect blend of lambic aged for three years in oak barrels before bottling.
