@bthalpin I looked at #GE2024 in Dublin Bay South and Sligo–Leitrim. In each case, winning parties & independents got only 70-75% between them.

And there is significant leakage from the first round. First preference votes for eliminated Fianna Fail candidates do not reliably transfer to the same party.

Labour's latest compassion: Deport migrant families with kids if they snub the cash bribe. Splitting up foreigners = Fair or Foul!?
-> Love to hear from those who voted Labour at the #GE2024?
#DeportationDystopia #StarmerFail
Since the #GE2024, the polling figures for the main UK political parties have changed considerably!
-> Westminster Voting intentions have seen Reform UK's support grow by 16% & the Green Party's by over 7%!
-> In contrast Labour's support has dropped by 15% & the #Tories by 7%!
#EdDaveyMP to Starmer: #LibDems ready to collab on killing #FPTP for fair PR votes!
-> Starmer promised to backed electoral reform in 2020, now PM – he's dropped it?
-> 60% of Brits demand change after Labour's 34% #GE2024 win.
#ElectoralReform #ProportionalRepresentation

I am old enough to remember when the #LibDems were the cautious centrists of #UKpolitics.
Then their first woman leader promised to just ignore the #Brexit referendum. Then their new leader took up farcical aquatic ceremonies and won lots of seats at #GE2024.

And now their former leader #TimFarron goes #flagshagging at the LibDem party conference 🙄

@DaObjector @Koochulainn Some Irish political hashtags are #irpol, and recently #GE2024 #GE24, #IrelandVotes. Search for posts with those and follow people who use them should help your timeline feel a little less lonely.

Considering the increasing discussion about the #Seanad2025 elections (part of Ireland's #GE2024 series of fun) I have the following hot take on Voting:

It's not a duty.

It's not a responsibility.

It's a right, which you can choose to exercise according to your circumstances, to your abilities or to your taste (or, more likely, your distaste).

There are reasons why someone can't, don't or won't vote, and telling them it's a duty or a responsibility is an insidious form of passive aggression.

(for the sake of clarity, I don't have a vote for the Seanad because it's not a general franchise. If I had the choice, I would make it a general franchise, and if I had the right to vote for the Seanad I would exercise that right as often as I possibly can, as I do with the general elections. However, I would never dare to suggest to anyone that they have a responsibility or duty to vote, as doing so without knowing their circumstances might very well be unfair to them!)

A caution for anyone in Ireland with a Seanad vote who has moved house - I updated my address on the normal election register and my polling card for the General Election went there but the Seanad address list must be separate as my ballot paper arrived at the parental home. Thankfully am there to pick up, deadline is 29th Jan.

@Palky55

Mate, I'm having party level discussions about the same thing. I can't say much, but there are high level discussions which have commenced looking in detail at #GE2024 voting patterns, where #Labour stands now, & what must be achieved to retain power in 2029.

Labour's coms are comically shit! This makes matters worse when we don't have a gob on a stick, populist leader who can chat shit & people take it all in.

The fightback is gonna have to come from us mate. I've got your back ✊🏾

Thanks for the 30c ReTurn Lorraine, maybe you’ll get the Seanad as consolation. #ge24 #ge2024 #irishelection
