The image shows the optical system used in the first science run of ALPS II.

The measurements described in the preprint (https://arxiv.org/abs/2512.14110) report on a search for a new, light-weight, set of particles called axion-like-particles. These could explain dark matter and other phenomena that the standard model of particle physics cannot describe.
